FAQs

  1. What is an EV?
  • Electric vehicles, commonly abbreviated as EVs, are ones that run on electricity. They have rechargeable batteries that have to be charged by an external source of electricity.
  1. What are the types of EV?
  • There are 3 types of EVs- Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV), and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV).
  1. What is an EVSE?
  • An EV Supply Equipment (EVSE) consists of external electrical equipment that provides a connection for an EV to get recharged. EVSE has advanced features like network connectivity, smart metering, and cellular capability.
  1. What are the different types of chargers?
  • There are 2 main types of chargers- AC (Alternate Current), and DC (Direct Current), of which DC chargers are generally fast chargers.
  1. Are EVs less polluting than ICEs?
  • Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) use fossil fuels to run and emit carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. EVs have zero tailpipe emissions, resulting in nearly zero pollution from a functioning EV.
  1. How long does it take to charge an EV?
  • The time taken to charge an EV can range from less than an hour to 8 hours, depending on the battery capacity and the power output of the charger.
  1. How much does it cost to charge an EV?
  • The cost of charging an EV varies from place to place, based on the state EV tariff. The general formula of calculating the price is the Battery Capacity (in kWh) X EV Charging Tariff (in INR/kWh).
  1. Is it expensive to own and maintain an EV?
  • Purchasing an EV is slightly expensive, compared to an ICE. However, an EV becomes cost-effective over time because electricity per unit costs much lesser than traditional fuels. Also, the maintenance cost is much lesser in EVs because EVs have fewer moving parts, hence there is less wear-and-tear.
  1. Are EVs safe?
  • EVs are very safe, if not safer than ICEs because EVs as well as the chargers go through rigorous testing for all safety measures, and have to receive certification from numerous regulatory bodies before being released into the market.
  1. What are the benefits from the Government for purchasing EVs?
  • The Government provides several fiscal as well as non-fiscal benefits for purchasing EVs. In India, you can enjoy an upfront capital subsidy, income tax rebates, and also a lower GST rate (5%) for buying an EV.
  1. Where can I charge my EV?
  • You can charge your EV in the comfort of your own home using our home chargers. When you are outside, you can use our AC and DC chargers at our charging stations.
  1. How can I find an EV charging station near me?
  • Apart from searching on Google, many companies are developing mobile applications that can easily tell you where to find an EV charging station. Our app, namely, VerdeMobility, also shows you the expected waiting time, and the cost of charging, apart from showing the nearest public charging point. Additionally, you can also book your slot for charging your EV.
